BLS Certification Classes v. CPR Certification

BLS Certification Classes

BLS certification classes are different from Heartsaver CPR certification in that BLS certification is focused more on healthcare workers who provide a higher level of medical care. CPR certification is included in BLS certification, but also teaches other skills such as ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction.

Our BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers CPR Course is designed for healthcare providers or aspiring healthcare providers who care for patients in a wide variety of settings, both in and out of the hospital. The course includes the following:

– Initial patient assessment

– Rescue breathing with a face-shield, pocket face mask, and bag valve device

– One and two rescuer CPR for adult, child and infant with and without an advanced airway

– Use of supplemental oxygen

– Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) on adults and children

– Relief of chocking with a blocked airway for responsive and unresponsive victims of all ages

– Special situations for healthcare providers

BLS certification classes are intended for healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician assistants, residents, fellows, pharmacists or pharmacy students, medical or nursing students, aides, medical or nursing assistants, dental or dental assistants, paramedics, EMTs, firemen, policemen, and other allied health personnel.

BLS certification requires a Skills Test (provided by Kansas City First Aid) separate from our BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers CPR Course. The skills test is only required if you are doing the online portion through the American Heart Association.  Our regular BLS Classes include the written and skills test and there is no need for a separate skills test.  We do offer the Skills testing portion to anyone that has completed the online section through the AHA also. To find public BLS certification classes, check out our course calendar here.
